How to Give Yourself Permission

How To’s designed to get you unstuck and pull you into alignment with your highest self.

Do you ever find yourself seeking permission from others to take up space?

Maybe there’s a dream or life goal you have and you’re waiting for someone to tell you, “hey, you’re AWESOME at this! You should totally pursue it!”

Perhaps you have trouble speaking your mind unless someone drags your thoughts out of you, which leaves you feeling chronically unseen and unheard.

Or you might even be subconsciously apologizing for existing with your words, behaviors, and body language.

In an ideal world, we’d all know exactly who we are, what we want, and what we need to get there.

And fear not: there are ways to do that!

So, let’s dive into a couple.

Use Pure Imagination

We’ve talked about visualization a lot lately, and that’s because not only is it an amazing way to get insights from our subconscious mind, we can also do it by ourselves any time, any place, and without any interference from someone else’s energy or opinion.

So, have a seat, throw on some calming music, close your eyes, tune into your body, and start imagining what you want most.

Let your subconscious mind lead by filling in details as you explore your ideal outcome.

What does it look like?

What does it FEEL like?

Notice the emotions that come up when you put yourself in this place, acting out your wildest, most beautiful desire.

If you want something BADLY and you don’t have it yet, this is the number one most effective way to motivate yourself to take steps toward it.

When we do this, we break down our inner resistance to having the things we want.

So, if you’ve been serially looking for permission from others to show up in your life in the most authentic, empowered way, then following your joy by visualizing your dream outcome will bypass that.

Try a New State of Mind

Another great hack to becoming a person who follows through on their desires without active permission from others is to put yourself in a different state of mind.

Never try to force yourself to take action if you’re feeling stressed, overwhelmed, exhausted, depleted, pressured, etc.

If your body is telling you, “Nope. I am not feeling this one tiny bit,” believe it and start there.

To change your state of mind, meet your needs by doing things that energize and inspire you.

If you don’t know what that looks like for you, start paying attention to things that give you energy and things that drain your energy to form a list.

Or try one or more of the following:

  • Pump up the jams with a playlist of music that inspires you and makes you feel excited. This is one of the speediest and easiest ways to alter our mindset and energy levels.
  • Get a really good night’s rest as often as possible
  • Meditate for 5-10 minutes by focusing on your breath and setting down all the worries and weight you’re currently carrying. Feel free to pick them back up (or let some of them go for good) afterwards!
  • Practice your favorite type of movement – walking, running, yoga, dancing in the kitchen, etc.

The more connected to and accepting of yourself you can be habitually, the more likely you’ll be to have the energy and motivation to show up and rock your own world.
